ACO has confirmed the news and the decision won’t change until the moment of truth takes place.
As quoted from the official’s statement, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the Sarthe Prefecture announced the doors closure for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans which will take place from 19 to 20 September 2020.
It is indeed a difficult situation for all of the concerned parties in this special event. The officials had even considered welcoming limited numbers of fans to the 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans which will happen in three weeks from now.
But the plan is abandoned due to the public health and safety concerned. We all know that there is no sign that the pandemic is going to be over soon. In this kind of situation, the officials including ACO and the Sarthe Prefecture would have taken the appropriate measurements to keep everybody safe. Therefore, the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans will proceed without the spectators in the venue.
ACO and the FIA have emphasized that the health and safety of the competitors, partners, and spectators have always been their primary concern.
